  7. WHAT IS THIS?

  9. This is the fifth set of my NewIcon images for your Workbench.
  10. These all use the standard NewIcon palette, so they won't
  11. allocate any extra pens from your workbench if you are already using
  12. NewIcons.  Sorry it's been so long since the last installment.  I just
  13. got married and that sort of side-tracked my icon production :)

  15. IMPORTANT!  If you are not running NewIcons, these will only look like
  16. little squares and you won't see any cool icons.  See below on how to
  17. install them.

  20. WHAT'S IN THIS VERSION?
  21.  
  22. Included are over 100 images not found in the original NewIcons archive,
  23. NewIconsXtra set, or my  previous 4 AESicons archives.  Most are totally
  24. original, a few are adapted from parts of Roger McVey's work, and a few
  25. others are adapted from images done by other aspiring icon artists.

  27. This archive contains a potpourri of icons for various programs, many of
  28. them recent uploads to Aminet.  Included is a complete icon set for Executive,
  29. several productivity icons (CygnusEd, accounting programs, graphing, etc.),
  30. and icons for sound/music programs, CyberGFX stuff, text utilities, and
  31. many more.

  33. I've also added in a few ToolManager Dock icons for networking stuff.  Yes,
  34. Toolmanager dock icons work with the NewIcons system, and it works great!

  37. I conversed with Roger McVey a little while ago, and he's working on some
  38. nifty "new" Newicons.  I got a little preview and they look fantastic.

  41. HEY SOFTWARE AUTHORS!
  42.  
  43. For you software authors out there, how bout putting some NewIcon images
  44. in with your programs?  For those not using NewIcons, they don't see them
  45. anyway, and it saves me the trouble of having to deal with deleting those
  46. purple MWB icons and me having to make new images for your software.
  47. You can easily make them from DPaint IFF brushes.

  49. Regardless of whether you prefer MWB or NewIcon images (or neither!),
  50. it's important to remember that the NewIcons system works with any style
  51. of image, and gives you the benefit of not having to worry about what your
  52. palette is set to in preferences.  The images will auto-remap to the
  53. appropriate color. Personally, I prefer the NewIcons style, but you can use
  54. NewIcons to adapt your icons to any style you like.  Thanks go out to Nicola

  60. HOW DO I INSTALL THESE TINY LITTLE SQUARES?
  61.  
  62. If you plan to use these images, you need the NewIcons Package.  It's
  63. available on Aminet (pub/aminet/util/wb/NewIcons.lha).  If you are not
  64. running NewIcons, you will only see little squares for the icons, and
  65. this package will be of no use for you.  To install these images, use
  66. the "copynewicon" utility to transfer the images over to the appropriate
  67. icon.  DON'T use the "creatdefaulticon" utility.  That's for creating
  68. NewIcon images for files that don't have ".info" files attached to them.
  69. Copynewicon is safe to use on your existing icons, because it won't mess
  70. with your default tool or your tooltypes.  Also, DON'T just copy the .info
  71. file over to your existing programs, because you won't keep your default
  72. tool or tooltypes that way either.  Like the NewIcons documentation says,
  73. think of this collection as a catalog of "images" rather than icons, from
  74. which you copy the image over to your other programs, rather than replacing
  75. the whole icon itself.

  77. This set is freely distributable, and the individual icons may be used or
  78. modified as you please.  If you pass on the package to others, please keep
  79. the archive intact with its documentation.  The authors of the programs
  80. for which these icons were designed have my permission to add them to
  81. their program archives; please let me know if you do.

  83. These icons were created with DeluxePaint IV AGA, NED (Newicons EDitor,
  84. Roger McVey's NewIcon editor - still in beta form) and NewIcon2brush.
  85. Final formatting was done with killoldicon by Michael Barsoom.
